The owners of this stunning 1930s property have recently completed a sympathetic renovation including a large side and rear extension in order to significantly enlarge their home. With its unique characteristics, the owners were particularly committed to ensuring that the original look, charm and style of the property was maintained throughout.
Throughout the renovation of the property, particular attention has been paid to maintaining many of the original features of the house including interior trim, internal plastering, brickwork, external columns and not to mention the windows. John knight Glass were chosen to replace 5 sets of the original steel french doors on the front of the property with steel alternative aluminium windows. Our client was particularly delighted that we were able to provide such a close match to the originals, maintaining their original charm, while providing a big upgrade in specification, going from single to double glazing, modern weather performance, enhanced U value and thermal efficiency and providing a low maintenance powder coated finish.
One of the new spaces our client created was a large open plan kitchen / dining / living space, which overlooked their large rear garden. This particular space was the one area our client chose to include a more modern style door, opting for a double glazed, triple sliding aluminium door. This enabled them to create a large opening that could be utilised to best effect during those warmer months when they wanted to really appreciate indoor / outdoor connectivity. With minimal sight lines, this door also provided them with exceptional year round viewing of their wonderful expansive garden and really flooded their huge space with the light it needs. Again by choosing aluminium, our client benefits from the low maintenance and enhanced performance that is offered with such modern technology, which again ensures that their home stays warm, dry and doesn't leak heat / money despite such large amounts of glazing.
Our client was delighted with the overall result and their commitment to maintaining a period appropriate renovation was well worth the effort now that their home has been brought back to its former glory and future proofed for many years to come.
