Roodee Cottage is in an idyllic rural setting surrounded by National Trust green belt land. A great example of a traditional English cottage packed with character and architecturally interesting features and finishes. The owners are refurbishing the property with the aim of retain as much of the original character as possible.
The house was initially fitted with timber windows, which were tired, draughty, and starting to show signs of age. Installing traditional UPVC windows was not an option as they would not be in keeping with the property's original style, so an appropriate alternative was required.
After several consultations at John Knight Glass, Evolution Flush windows were the perfect choice for this cottage as they offer all the benefits of a traditional UPVC window, such as enhanced energy efficiency, 'A' rated double glazing and low maintenance. Despite enjoying these modern features, they stay true to the original timber casement windows' original style with their flush design, painted wood effect foil finish, Georgian-style bars and mechanical joints. The windows were also internally fitted with traditional furniture, such as the monkey tail handles and working peg stays, giving the authentic feel of a conventional window.
Similarly, a timber-effect front door was also selected from the Evolution range. To match the original windows perfectly, it has a matching wood foil finish, both internally and externally. The door is also fitted with traditional cast iron-effect door hardware for a seamless aesthetic throughout.
Installing Evolution windows in Roodee Cottage has improved the comfort of this home whilst staying true to the original period and charm of the property with the bonus of a low maintenance UPVC system removing the need to paint the windows throughout coming years, the perfect investment for the future. To say the owners of this cottage are delighted with their new windows and door is an understatement.
